Often : Often times, memory issues in children are actually attention problems - they don't know what was just said to them because they weren't even listening in the first place.  This is not necessarily his fault.  He may have attention deficit disorder (add) which is often discovered later than attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (adhd) because kids with add aren't bouncing off of the walls.  If he has a problem with frequent daydreaming, he could have a condition called "absence seizures" where kids are actually having few second seizures when they appear to be "spacing out".  They usually do not remember anything during the time of the seizure.

Being able to successfully treat him requires diagnosing the cause of his problem.  You should contact your son's doctor and discuss your concerns.  They may be able to help him, or will know who to refer him to in your area.  Good luck!

Atelectasis: Depends on why it collapsed to begin with. If it was a mass pressing on it, need to remove. If it was because of infection and have a hard covering , we need to remove it for the lung to open up.

No: Lungs may collapse for a variety of reasons, including trauma, blebs, bullae, increased pressure in the lungs, etc. While a pneumothorax may occur because of a bulla, it does not cause them.

Decreased sounds: A collapsed lung is associated with absent air flow to the involved segment of the lung. On examination, the involved part will have diminished/absent breath sounds. Small areas of lung collapse may not cause any symptoms & can go undetected unless a chest xray is done. The evaluation & treatment depends on patient's history & underlying medical conditions. Talk to your doctor about your specifics.

NO: Not a good idea. The airplane air is under prfessure ie pressureized cabin and could increase the ptx  while in flight needing emergency  chest tube placement.

It depends: Patients should discuss their specific circumstances with their physician. It depends on the cause and/or associated abnormality/disease of a patient's lung.  Pneumothorax may be caused by chest trauma or from abnormalities in the lung tissue itself.  Sometimes, it is recommended that surgery be performed to remove abnormal areas of lung tissue. Discuss with thoracic surgeon.

Chest tube: Usually a deflated lung is reinflated by putting in a chest tube surgically and then applying that to negative pressure. The negative pressure inflates the lung. Then the tube can  be removed.

A couple: Pneumothorax is air in the chest cavity which compresses the lung ( from lung leak, surgical, or trauma)
also blood, pus, fluid can compress the lung in certain disease.

Atelectasis is internal obstruction ( mucous, foreing body, tumor) and lung collapses.
