A couple: Pneumothorax is air in the chest cavity which compresses the lung ( from lung leak, surgical, or trauma) also blood, pus, fluid can compress the lung in certain disease. Atelectasis is internal obstruction ( mucous, foreing body, tumor) and lung collapses.

Air in wrong place: Pneumothorax is an accumulation of air outside your lung but inside your chest/ribcage. It is commonly described as a "collapsed lung" because the air in this space displaces your lung and prevents complete expansion of your lung.
