what do you recommend for a strong cough and nausea thats a syrup?

: It depends upon what type.of cough and what condition you have. If you have an annoying dry hacking cough following a head cold, then a cough suppressant like syrup DM or Robitussin with codeine helps. If you have an active bronchial or pulmonary infection and need to raise&amp; expectorate  secretions or sputum, then we prescribe an expectorant cough syrup that your pharmacist can recommend.

can i use ginger instead of dimenhydrinate to relieve nausea from drinking large amounts of cough syrup?

Neither: If you have potentially taken an overdose of a medication, you should not take any additional medications or herbs until you seek emergency health care.

my 3 year old daughter has a horrible cough and nausea. can i give her cough syrup (children's nyquil) and gravol together?

Accepted Answer

No: The am academy of pediatrics doesn't recommend any cough products for young children as they haven't been shown effective and sometimes are harmful.  Children's coughs may benefit from vaporizer, drinking fluids, and 1 tsp honey for those over 1 year.  If cough persists, see dr:  consider asthma, pneumonia, postnasal drainage cough, etc.  I am not familiar with gravol, so no advice with it.

do ipecacuanha tablets (bottle says to treat nausea, vomiting or cough) have the same effect as syrup of ipecac (which induces vomiting)?

Opposite effect!: I am presuming the Ipecacuanha tablets you are talking about are homeopathic (it is probably labelled something like 12x or 30c). This actually prevents nausea and vomiting rather than inducing it. One of the main principles of homeopathy is "like cures like." As Ipecac syrup induces vomiting, a highly dilute form of it prepared homeopathically helps to prevent vomiting.

Yes: Cough syrups that contain dextromethorphan (dm) can commonly trigger nausea, stomach pain and even vomiting.

: Stay well hydrated with sips of clear liquids including water and broth. Monitor temperature, and watch for fever and abdominal pain. Please follow up with your PCP.

Hiatal hernia poss.: If unusual gurgling sounds persist, it might indicate that part of your stomach has herniated through your diaphragm muscle into the chest. This is called a hiatal hernia, which can often result in acid reflux problems. If symptoms resolve quickly i wouldn't worry; could just be a transient issue with stomach motility.

is bloating a common symptom of chronic pancreatitis? or other common causes? i drink 4-5 sodas a day and eat 3-4 times day. my tummy gets bloated. no pain or nausea. i googled 'bloating' cp appeared/

Bloating: Can be related to many gastrointestinal problems. You should start by eliminating the carbonated drinks in your diet and decrease gas producing foods. There are some over the counter meds such a a gas ex that may help. Talk to your doctor. Take care!

Gallbladder : Nausea after fatty food can be sign of reflux, gall bladder or pancreas issue. More info will be needed to pinpoint the cause.
