Symptoms of urinary incontinence, stress incontinece, urethral or vaginal irritation or discharge require visual genital plus possible digital exam. Concern about possible stool impaction may require digital rectal exam (inserting gloved finger)

Benign: A urethral caruncle is what we call a granulomatous(benign) lesion at the urethral meatus(opening)..Most often in post menopausal women. It is bright red,soft and smooth.If the diagnosis is apparent, no treatment is needed. Estrogen crean and anti inflammatory cream may be used.If it is bothersome it can be removed or cauterized. It is not a serious condition.

my urology nurse practioner prescribed nabumetone 500 mg tab for a week, followed by 4 weeks of doxycycline hyclate 100mg. after i talked about urine hesitancy and after she performed a prostate exam saying prostate felt inflammed. thoughts?

: Doxycycline is not the drug of choice for bacterial prostatitis. I do not use it without a culture result which indicates the bacteria are only sensitive to Doxycycline. Rectal exam alone is not the correct way to diagnose the acute bacterial prostatitis. I am not sure why she prescribed a NSAID first for one week before antibiotic. You need to see the urologist and request a formal urine tests.

Generally, some insurance pay for routine health screening labs under a Physical exam (Z00.00) or Lipid screening codes (Z13.220) that includes a CMP and Lipid panel-which tests also for Electrolytes, kidney, liver, and Glucose (Diabetes screen if fasting). CHECK with your Insurance!

good morning doctors. i have a urology question. my psa was 1.20 in 2020. in march of this year it was 1.32. just now in december psa is 1.33. should i be worried that it went up in 9 months, even though it "only" went up .01 but nonetheless went up?

: PSA is variable and this much change is not significant  and can also increase with benign enlargement of the prostate which occurs at this age. If your rectal exam was neg. ,there is no family history of ca of prostate, then yearly PSA and exam of prostate by a Urologist is OK

Depends on laws and: That varies depending on whatever applicable local laws and rules are present. Because doctors and patients often cannot know the cost of a visit until after a visit, because the government likes to have a hand in everything, and because insurers don't enjoy paying for services, there ends up being excessive rules. It is possible that SEPARATE billing for a SINGLE FOBT is not standard procedure.
