please help! what is the proper procedure for giving a lidocaine injection?

Clean, test, inject: Clean the area with an alcohol wipe.  insert needle, aspirate back to be sure you are not in  a blood vessel, then inject.

injections for lower back were not helpful. so i was reccomended for nerve burning, but i was told if injections were useless so would burning the nerve procedure. is that true?

Yes: Permanent destruction of the nerves will be of no value if the temporary suppression with injection was not successful.  Injections with alcohol, sectioning, and burning all destroy the nerves.  Unfortunately, the nerve stubs can still register pain and cause even worse pain then when they were intact.

Local Anesthesia : Most patients get an injection of a local anesthetic prior to tooth procedure. This will help to stop the pain during the procedure and make the patient less apprehensive. A topical rub can be applied to lessen the discomfort during the injection process

i have to take 3 5mg xanax (alprazolam) before a medical procedure tomorrow. will i feel anything at all? i am completely terrified. the procedure is a back injection. please help!

Yes: Is it 0.5 mg or 5 mg, there is a big difference.
Most likely if its 0.5 mg you should be more relaxed or sleeping. You will need someone to drive you to and from the procedure. Xanax (alprazolam) could last up to minimum of 3 hours or longer. Chew the tabs up one at a time and see if you relax enough to use less. Good luck you will do fine!

why do the affects of lidocaine wear off very quickly or not work well for some people? i've had injections for a picc line & ivs, inhaled for manometry, etc. each time, the feeling is back before the procedure has barely begun?

: The time frame for effectiveness varies with local blood flow and an individual's personal response to the drug. There are some forms of this anesthetic that have epinephrine added that decreased its dispersion and delays loss of effect.

Define safe, painles: The MRI is generally safe and does not cause problems unless you have claustrophobia. The problems is the contrast (dye) which requires an IV site - &amp; hence a needle venipuncture. The dyes used varies at different places, but (high-osmolar) contrast dyes with Gadolinium have been known to cause nephrogenic systemic fibrosis. Ask the doctor ordering the MRI if dye HAS to be used, &amp; for alternatives

Doesn't hurt: With a leep the cervix will be numbed with local anesthetic.  You may feel some heat but nothing should hurt.  The local anesthetic injections may be a little uncomfortable.

i had a 5dbfet on wednesday (23.04). (natural cycle). after the procedure they gave me a subcut injection. would it be hcg or progesterone?

Likely progesterone: I cannot imagine any reason for an HCG shot after an embryo transfer. That is normally only used to trigger ovulation.  Progesterone would make much more sense because it is the naturally occurring hormone that plays a prominent role after conception.

i am going for a procedure and have switched from warfarin to heparin. i would just like to know when i can reuse an injection site.

Injections: You can reuse the same general body areas for subcutaneous injections as long as you avoid prior pinpoint sites. Don't inject into any reddened ,swollen, ecchymotic(bruised)or inflamed areas.
