Not long term: Clove oil an be used short term to help ease toothaches and gum pain.  Small quanties are used in some toothpastes.  Pure clove oil should not be used as a toothpaste or applied to the gums long term as it can chemically burn the tissue and cause pain.

Probably not: And even it it did, then you would need root canal therapy on that tooth. The clove oil is for temporary relief of pain on a tooth that is alive. At this point, your dentist may be able to restore it without root canal therapy. If the nerve is already dead, the clove oil will do nothing.

Oil of Cloves: Is a minor topical anesthetic. The infection simply got worse and more painful.  The pus should be released and the abscess Rx'd with antibiotics.

It will not remove the need for appropriate care - but to get through a wait, a diluted well-spaced use will not be likely to damage nerves or even gum tissue.
