No: Wouldn't it be something if there was a drug to dissolve plaque? A lot of people would be out of business. Despite the lay press, there are no proven therapies that dissolve plaque with any consistency that cannot be due to chance.

Yes: It is, but we almost never use it in the US any longer.

Apples vs. oranges: They are both cardiac medicines. They are however used for totally different reasons. Calcium blockers are most commonly used to treat high blood pressure. They may also be used to treat chest pain or to slow the heart. Clot busters are used to dissolve a clot in the arteries that supply blood to the heart itself and therefore to limit the amount of heart damaged by removing the blockage.

More info needed: Blood clots in veins are treated with different types of anticoagulants than blood clots in arteries. To make matters more confusing, some people refer to a hematoma (a collection of blood outside of a vessel) as being a blood clot. No medicines are used to dissolve hematomas. So you need to discuss this with someone who understands exactly what the situation is.

Be careful: Both tumeric and ginger can increase the efficacy of your medication to treat blood clots resulting in an  increased tendency to bleed.  I would not expect it to be a problem if you are using these herbs as spices to flavor your food, but would expect a problem if you are taking them as a supplement. Be careful with the amount you ingest and have your lab values followed.

Not necessarily...: If a woman didn't ovulate for a couple of months, built up a thicker uterine lining, and then sloughed it all over a few days, it would be logical to expect a heavy period. But maybe not all of the lining is coming off, maybe it's coming off over many days, or maybe the bleeding is from the cervix area and not a true period. Sounds like it would be best to see the obgyn doc to make sure all is ok.

what causes blood clotting? why does my blood clot even while i'm on waferin and exralto? is there other medication available in south-africa?

Blood CLOTS: with the use of ANY anticoagulant.....it just takes longer and is less likely to occur spontaneously!! As far as I know, all the presently used anticoagulants are available in South Africa!

hepc medication lead to early menopause at 43. 10 years later few blood clots one day and thick endometrium line. how concerning is that?

It is what it is: I am sorry that menopause began sooner then you would have liked at age 43, however, you have deeper concerns that need a GYN evaluation to rule out endometrial cancer with the clots and thickened endometrium. Please see a GYN for an accurate diagnosis via biopsy if need be.

i have a bruise on my leg that just showed up without injury. is that normal? i'm on a medication that can cause blood clots. should i be concerned?

Bruise: spontaneous bruising is very common and is not usually related to blood clots. It should disappear but if you get more you should let your doctor have a look at them
