Yes: Clopidogrel and any blood thinner always caries a risk of any kind of hemmorhage but generally the risk is low and less than the risk of a problem that the clopidogrel is trying to prevent.  However in my career I have seen 2 or 3 cases of bone marrow failure in patients who have taken clopidogrel for a long period of time.

No: Plavix (clopidogrel) is an antiplatelet drug, meaning it affects blood clotting. Upon cessation, blood clotting will revert to pre-Plavix (clopidogrel) status. Of course any Plavix (clopidogrel) associated side-effects will also resolve.

i have a total of 6 stents, how long should i expect to be on plavix (clopidogrel) or other blood thinning medication?

Depends: It doesn't matter so much how many stents you have but why you have them, what do you your other arteries look like and when were they put in. For instance, if a patient had stents for a heart attack and got 2 stents and then got 2 more 8 months later and then another 2 in a year, i might recommend life long antiplatelet treatment with Aspirin (81 mg) and plavix (clopidogrel).

Tia/pregnancy: If  there was a through eval for carotid disease, any cardiac issues or hyper-coaguable state and neuro-imaging is negative...Then use of clopidogrel and or Aspirin may be indicated....Rarely easy bruising or nausea may be noted.

I'm afraid not : If you have atrial fibrillation better use an anticoagulant, Eliquis. Plavix (clopidogrel) is an antiplatlet drug, two different mechanisms, discuss with your doctor, wish you wellness

Not a good idea: Green tea inhibits platelet aggregation & adhesion; the combination with Plavix (clopidogrel) may increase the risk of bleeding. Ask your doc if a lower dose of Plavix (clopidogrel) might be sage with green tea. Or choose a tea without anticoagulant effects.

i'm on hbp medications; diuretics, lisnopril and clopidogrel. my bp has been under good control, but i still feel tired climbing long stirs/hills. i do have at least 40mins of walking 4/5 times weekly. does not affect my normal daily activities. why?

Intensity : Climbing stairs/hills is a more intense activity than walking. It may be just a matter of conditioning. Try increasing the intensity of your walking exercise by carrying weights. If you use a treadmill, set it at gradually increasing incline.

It's your money: Evidence-based medicine works out of a dysfunctional system but is based on real science and tells you accurately what is going on. Green coffee was promoted for weight loss by a naturopath on dr. Oz based on a tiny unreplicated study by the pill-maker itself in a junk journal. Go ahead if you want, and think also about what you owe yourself -- find a fitness activity that you really enjoy.

my sister 74, is on propranolol, biopentin nt and crestor for nerve impulses. amlodipine, clopidogrel for some time now. she is been feeling lightheaded and at times falls when she bends down. does she need to review the medications?

: She needs a comprehensive assessment that will include a review of her meds with her main doc as bleeding becomes of concern following falls (she is on Plavix).

i had my coronary angioplasty one year back. i am on clopidogrel 70mg bd, atrovastation 40 mg od, metroprolol 25 od and aspirin 150mg od. should i reduce my medication?

Accepted Answer

Probably not: It depends on the type of stent used. If it was a coated stent, you should stick with your current program (i assume the clopidogrel is 75, not 70). If it was a bare metal stent, after a year you might ask your doctor about going with Aspirin alone.
