i have a small incident of alopecia areata and was prescribed a taro clobetasol topical solution, clobetasol propionate 0.05%. ive been using it twice a day for six weeks so far but have seen little results. when does this medication start working?

: Your dermatologist may recommend continuing to 8 weeks or even 12 weeks, but it would not be unreasonable to call him/her and explain that the medication you are applying faithfully as directed does not seem to be having much of an effect.

i am currently taking clobetasol propionate on scalp and having side effects.  what other prescriptions could i use for dandruff?

Talk to your PCP.: There are other corticosteroid lotions available that you can try including fluocinolone and triamcinolone. You can also use Selenium Sulfide shampoo or ketoconazole shampoo.

Antifungal: Ketoconazole is an anti fungal cream (used to treat things like athlete's foot and ringworm.)  It will not be effective in the treatment of acne, which is a bacterial process.

Might: But probably not. This is not for genital use unless you have lichen sclerosis. It can cause severe atrophy of this area.

should different topical ointments be ever mixed? can you tell me what side effects/if any could happen if you mix ammonium lactate cream, ketoconazal shampoo, betamethasone ointment, clobetasol propionate ointment?

The : The Betamethasone and the clobetasol are both steroids, therefore it is probably not a good idea to mix these together since steroids can cause thinning of the skin when used in high amounts or over prolonged periods of time. As far as the the other two ointments, there is no interaction as far as i can tell from my research; however you should consult the prescribing doctor or your local pharmacist to be sure.

i am using dermovat cream clobetasol propionate for a small part of my chest skin where i am treating a keloid for 2 months, any steroid side effects?

Caution!: That is a very potent steroid cream, usually not prescribed for continuous use.It can cause your skin to thin, blood vessels to change, loss of normal elasticity, worsening of skin infections, and rarely can cause systemic symptoms.This is less likely with use on just a "small" part of skin, but small is a relative term! it usually does not shrink keloids. Better would be steroid injected  directly.

Clobex: Itching, dryness, dizziness, osteoporosis, numbness, glaucoma.

why is clobetasol propionate controlling my acne? after reading past post i won't use it on my face but can this point to another condition?not acne?

Accepted Answer

Acne or other: You could have comedonal acne which does have an element of inflammation to it which is why the clobetasol helps. You could also have Rosacea which is similar to acne. A dermatologist can help you sort through this. Tetracycline, and antibiotic, has anti-inflammatory effect and targets the bacteria that can cause the acne!

i am taking clobetasol propionate and have been getting severe acne on my face because of it. how long will it take to go away?

Perioral dermatitis: See a dermatologist. Why using clobetasol on face? It may cause perioral dermatitis. STOP IT!!!. You will benefit from oral minocycline and tacrolimus ointment. You may be treating this for months. You also need to address whatever you thought you were treating in the first place.
