No: Clindamycin is a lincosamide antibiotic while Doxycycline is a type of tetracycline antibiotic.  There are totally different, not chemically related and have different antibacterial spectra.

Give it time.: Sounds like a reasonable treatment, but 4 days is too soon to see significant improvement. Folliculitis is an infection within the hair follicles, and it takes awhile for the medications to get into them.  If you go a week or two without improvement, you might be on the wrong antibiotic for your particular infection, or the diagnosis may be wrong, and you should call your doctor.

was given ketoconazole for itching and clindamycin for scalp bumps and doxycycline antibiotic for folliculitis... i have alot of pain that doesn't seem to be going away.. what could this be? allergic reaction?

Scalp pain: Scalp pain. An allergy would be possible. I see you were given ketoconazole for a fungal infection. Topical antifungals will not be effective for a fungal infection of the scalp. An oral agent would need to be used.

Yes but not sure why: Doxycycline 'covers' the same bacteria as are treated with clindamycin and has a better side-effect profile. So I'm not sure 'why' you would be taking both at the same time. With dual antibiotics, you have a higher chance of side-effects. Maybe this is just a short-term treatment, so it wouldn't matter so much. Hope you can improve there.

Yes, it's safe.: There is no specific interaction. However, with all antibiotics, you should be aware that prolonged use of multiple antibiotics does tend to destroy the normal gut flora (normal bacteria in your intestinal tract) and allows for overgrowth of one particularly BAD type of bacteria called clostridium difficile (C. Diff). This can lead to prolonged bouts of diarrhea. So, be careful in the long term.

: If going to beach check that the meds you are taking or have been taking can cause skin reactions in the sun.  Go to DRUGS.com and check all you have been on for last few weeks. Discuss with Dr. You do not want a severe sun reaction to your meds. Discuss with the prescribing Dr.
