SnapCracklePop!: Sounds like a form of arthritis in the neck. Also, did you know that some of the structures in the throat can also get arthritis? So you'd best see a doctor who can help you sort this out. Motrin may help. Tylenol (acetaminophen) too. Depending on how it looks to the doctor he may prescribe other medications as well as, possibly, physical therapy or some other form of physical intervention(s). Be careful driving.

Neck Clicking: This is a relatively common complaint and a more thorough history and physical exam including an neck and chest X-ray should be obtained first. It most likely is related to the cervical spine and vertebrae. It can be normal or a sign of arthritis or other bony condition.

Muscles and Nerves: Typically either side of neck and head are provided sensation by nerves that supply them exiting out of the neck and head.  Muscles also lying in that area may be the issue as well.  If there is a history of neck pain that should be evaluated since there could be arthritis, nerve impingement or herniated disks involved.  See a pain/spine specialist to evaluate this.

Anti-inflammatory: Sharp neck pain usually comes from a degenerative joint or disc in the neck.  Sometimes it's from a muscle strain or sprain.  Early treatment options include a short course of nsaids (advil, aleve), gentle massage, moist heat, and focusing on posture.  If pain lasts greater than 2 weeks see your physician.

There are: cartilages which unite your vertebrae (they are actually JOINTS) and they can make noise when pressure is put upon them (turning...stretching) Once you become "aware" of this NORMAL "noise" it seems more "prominent'!! Try IGNORING it!  EXERCISE...and keep in mind AGING reduces the FLEXIBILITY of these cartilages and the noise will STOP ...NOT to be "looked forward to!"
