Well : Well presence of allergies, hyper inflated lungs on cxr and dyspnea suggest asthma. You can have normal pfts (pulmonary function tests) ad still have asthma.I am not sure you have been tried on but usually you need blood test or skin test for allergies and a total ige level ( blood test). You could try inhalers on regular basis for example advair or Dulera (formoterol and mometasone) on twice a day basis and see if this will help you symptomatically. Some times treatment of asthma can become difficult and will need some patience at your and your doctors end.

i woke up at 6:30am & my allergies were horrible so i took allegra d & fell back to sleep. i woke up about 2-3 hours later & my allergies were still horrible. the allegra didnt work at all. is it ok that i took a claritin d?

Expected: The D is a stimulant and thus it is not surprising that you end up with insomnia.  Mucinex (guaifenesin) D will cause similar side effects.  Nasal steroid is far more effective and would not cause insomnia or drowsiness.

Won't help: And better not overdose, kindly revisit your doctor or get a second opinion, meanwhile, if your symptoms are nasal congestion and runny nose, saline nasal washes and OTC fluticasone nasal spray may be of help, read the labels carefully, good luck

Usually no worries: In general, a person who uses regular Claritin (or regular Zyrtec) at the OTC daily dose should not notice any unusual effects if she doubles up on the dose for one day. The medication effects are not strong enough to make a big difference, although some people may see better relief of allergy symptoms.

Yes: While it is an extended-release formulation if you take it as a broken in half pill nothing bad will happen to you. Assuming that you take it with water, you have a normal swallowing reflex, the pill is not expired- you should be fine.

Unlikely: You've had a double dose of the decongestant which can keep you from sleeping well, increase your heart rate and increase your blood pressure. The double dose of Claritin is unlikely to cause you any issues in the next 12 hours. I do not think you need any immediate medical attention unless you develop any concerning symptoms.

Yes: Claritin D contains a decongestant which Allegra (as opposed to Allegra D does not). However if you need that much antihistamine you may find a nasal steroid working far better (needs several days to get optimal results)
