is it possible that i occasionally have an upset stomach, tiredness and headaches due to 40mg of celexa (citalopram) i'm on every day?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Particularly early in treatment, headaches, some nausea or upset stomach can be caused by an ssri like celexa, (citalopram) as well as some mild sedation. This ought to resolve itself over a few days to a couple of weeks, but if it doesn't you should discuss with your prescribing physician.

Call our doctor!: Antidepressants are supposed to help you  feel better; if you feel worse, it is likely the  wrong drugor dosage.  Thee is a small risk of heart problems with citalopram in genetically susceptible persons.  There can also be interference with your sleep which could produce tiredness and fatigue.  3-7% of persons cannot metabolize citalopram, and  can get toxic on normal doses.  Call your doctor!

Feeling Good: There are several types of depression.  Reactive depression occurs as a result of loss and eventually we adjust.  If one does not adjust or if the cause is not clear certainly seek professional help.  "feeling good" by david burns is an excellent self-help book based on science.  Don't let the thickness of it intimidate you.  Take it bit by bit.  The very best to you.

How long in celexa (citalopram)?: Anxiety and depression cause decreased energy, so even though the medication is helping it may not be fully controlling the disease. If you just started taking, give it more time. If not, talk to your doctor to see if they think the disease is controlled, if it is then they can look for other causes / explanations.

how do you know the difference between anxiety or just feeling tired and overwhelmed. my dr wants me on citalopram i don't think it's the solving prob?

Usually safe: Celexa (citalopram) can be dose to 40 mgs daily. The vast majority of patients tolerate this dose well. For many years the FDA approved dosing to 60 mgs daily. The medication is broken down in the liver by an enzyme called CYP2D6. Many medications can inhibit this enzyme and some people have a form of the enzyme that does not work as well, so the FDA decreased the maximum dose. Sedation can occur.

took citalopram in morning and on the night time i couldn't sleep.  i need to be alert for my job and was so tired today will taking at night help?

It may: The ssri's work well and should be taken daily.  Taking at night may work well, and decrease the side effects of lethargy throughout the day.  Many of my patients do well on this med at night.  Be sure to discuss with your dr.  Good luck.

If you feel tired ;: Nauseated - taking it at night (and with food) is a great idea. Take care.

i take celexa (citalopram) 4 fibromyalgia, can u tell me if this helps with more fibro symptoms than just pain? fatigue, anxiety, fibro fog..ect? plz

Maybe: Ssris may help with more than just pain in patients with fibromyalgia, namely, fatigue, anxiety. In fact, they may be more helpful for those symptoms than pain. On the other hand, snris (effexor, cymbalta) and tca (tricyclics - nortriptylin, amitriptylin etc.) do better than ssris alleviating the pain associated with fb.
