how is ringworm diagnosed? my one year old has a circular rash that looks like it may either be eczema or ringworm.

Treatment: Most would treat and if it did not respond to the over the counter antifungal cream you could either see a dermatologist or try a steroid cream which would resolve the eczema.

Probably eczema: Your baby is likely to be having eczema as it recurs often and is not scaly The eczema may present as rash of any shape or size and anywhere on the body .Unlikely to be ringworm at this age .as baby"s contact is limited .Watch for any change in rash or it persists ,if so consult your doctor .

Differences: Eczema is a chronic inflammatory skin condition due to genetic defects in the proteins and lipids supporting the skin layer/barrier called the epidermis. Ringworm is a skin infection due to a fungus. Psoriasis changes the life cycle of skin cells causing cells to build up rapidly on the surface of the skin. Extra skin cells form thick, silvery scales and itchy, dry, red patches, that are painful.

Eczema?: Nummular eczema can mimic the look of ringworm. Are you sure that it is eczema and not ringworm though? You can use the traditional eczema treatment on it, if u r sure. Dove sensitive skin soap to wash, aquaphor to moisturize and 1% hydrocortisone directly to that spot. Hope this helps. If you are unsure, seek the diagnosis from your pediatrician or dermatologist.

i suffer from eczema on the hands year round. i recently developed two perfectly round rings on the side of my hands. can ringworm be painful?

Itching: Eczema is common caused by contact allergens (gloves, wetness, fur) and causes inflammation which is itchy.  The areas you are referring to might have become lichenified or inflamed to the point where they are red, thickened, and painful.  This does not discount the fact that skin breakdown from eczema can increase your chance of opportunistic infections like the fungus that causes ringworm.

hi i have what looks like eczema or like a ringworm in the corner of my right eye its spreading underneath as well. what is it and is it treatable?

Get evaluated: Neither eczema or ringworm will affect the eyeball itself. The skin of the lids may have such a process &amp; treatment would be similar to those of the rest of the body. It would be prudent to have this looked at, so close to the eye so treatment can be specific &amp; quickly reduce risk of scarring.

Rash:  If this rash has spread to most of her body, I would recommend having this assessed.
