Depends: Each surgeon have their own rules about swimming after ear surgery.  It also depends on what type of cholesteatoma surgery you had.  If it was a canal wall up, probably 4-12 weeks.  If it was a canal wall down, some surgeons would say you shouldn't swim.  This is something you should discuss with your surgeon.

Skin cyst: Cholesteatoma is a destructive and expanding growth consisting of keratinizing squamous epithelium in the middle ear and/or mastoid process. 
For pre and postoperative instructions, ask your ENT surgeon.

Should: Comprehensive surgery including rebuilding the small chain of bones in the middle ear should help restore hearing. Yet it depends on the specific problem.

about 9 yrs ago i was treated for cholesteatoma thru surgery. i'm having a lot of pain on the same side in my jaw. could it be related to this?

Cholesteatoma: Hello. The most common presentation of a recurrent cholesteatoma would be drainage. Other symptoms could be hearing loss, ringing and/or dizziness. The jaw pain would most probably not be related but seeing your ENT doctor will confirm this and may even be able to help identify a reason for the discomfort. Good luck.

Call ENT ASAP: You need to contact the ENT who did the surgery ASAP to check for complications.  Don't delay another minute.

: Rather recent onset of severe tinnitus warrants a more urgent evaluation especially if hearing loss persists.  The discharge is consistent with ongoing drainage of ear wax which may have something to do with the recent onset tinnitus. See the ENT soon. .

Clarification: Small skin bleeding is not uncommon. If it is saturating through several bandages, should contact surgeon.

is it possible a local anaesthesia surgery for cholesteatoma? compared to total anaesthesia. which one is more secure?

Accepted Answer

Possible: It really depends on your ability to cooperate.  If you are very scared just go to sleep.  The risk of general anesthesia is 1:200, 000 of death, local anesthesia can cause reactions also however.
