i am on 10mg of ramipril & 5mg of amolodipine besylate. i was on 25mg of chlorthalidone, but didn't like the way it made me feel. i tend to still average around 141/84 with a pulse around 75-80. is there a better medication?

Individual tailoring: Many combinations available. You need to go through an iterative process of trial and error with various medications. For you, an ARB (angiotensin receptor blocker) might be better than the Ramipril, and it may be that doses can be changed or a beta blocker added. Yes: I assume these medicines were prescribed by a physician.  Chlorthalidone is a diuretic and clonidine works its action via alpha agonism.  These medicines are commonly prescribed for high blood pressure.

Change meds.: Every drug in existence causes a rash once in awhile. If you're sure that your rash is due to chlorthalidone, ask your doctor to prescribe a different diuretic, which should solve the problem.

Caution!: Chlorthalidone almost ALWAYS causes a low potassium which will un-do the beneficial effects of MulTaq. They're not contraindicated but you MUST have your potassium monitored and supplemented as needed to stay above 4.0!

Yes: Most often Xanax (alprazolam) is taken as needed for anxiety, while the diuretic and blood,pressure meds are taken on a routine  basis. There should not be a significant drug drug interaction . You can always discuss w your pharmacist or prescribing doc.

taking 12.5mg chlorthalidone, but my potassium is 3.2meq/l. my pcp is not concerned, and dismisses it. i have resistant hypertension.

Low potassium: Although measurement of blood (extracellular) potassium doesn't necessarily measure the potassium within cells, i recommend taking a potassium supplement to keep your blood potassium to at least 3.4 especially when taking Chlorthalidone since we can't know your intracellular potassium level.

am 52 year old female. on 12.5 mg of chlorthalidone, 25 mg potassium citrate meq daily for kidney stones. weight down from 114 to 104 pounds in four months. is this normal and will weight loss slow?

Unexplained wt loss: If you are not trying to lose weight , this weight loss is a cause for concern, since the medications you mention should not cause a ten pound weight loss. Unexplained weight loss can be a sign of serious disease. Please see your doctor for an examination and appropriate tests.

No: Chlorthalidone does not have an effect on the liver and does not cause fatty liver. Fatty liver or steatohepatosis can be due to Alcohol or other causes (medications, obesity, diabetes, malnutrition, etc).
