?where.what kind?: If u have an 'extra bone' on the side of your knee @your age(inside) you and your parents should have it looked at by a bone specialist(orthopedist).You may have an osteochondroma .These are benign (non-cancerous )growths which are common on the distal femur inside(medial) and can cause pain w/knee flexion as the quadriceps muscle gets' stretched'over it.Excision can be helpful.See orthopedist!

Local pain: This could be bursitis and or lateral ligament strain i advice to do and x-ray and have a full exam then specific treatment.

Loose body: You may have a loose fragment in your knee
if that is the case, when you move the chip can move and can cause your knee to lock up
if this is what is going on you probably will need an arthroscopic procedure to get rid of
the problem.

PF syndrome: This is not uncommon for women. Women's anatomy is such the it often leads to patellofemoral syndrome. Conservative measures to start would be to have physical therapy for quad strengthening exercises. If that doesn't work, you may need surgery for a lateral release (only in a small subset of patients), tibial tubercle osteotomy or femoral rotational osteotomies. Surgery is not often needed.

See PCP.: At your age, unless you injured the knee or the leg, you should not be hearing your knee pop. It might be best to see your pcp and have it x-rayed but advil (ibuprofen) will help the pain. God luck.

Please ask your doct: Several questions--have you fallen or sustained ay trauma?  Any discoloration over area involved.  Is area painful to touch?  Best to be seen and probably have an x-ray taken if this has been going on for more than a couple days.   Best wishes.

got small scape on side of my knee 1 1/2 weeks ago. scabed up just fine. didn't hurt much till yesterday. now it hurts kind of deep down. like bone pain. no look of infection on outside. is this a worry.

Probable tendinitis: When wound at this site heals, underlying the area are  insertions of the tendons of the lower leg into  the distal femoral areal or tibial plateau.  When the would is well healed and sutures out, if deep pain persists, best way to complete deeper healing is to increase blood flow to area.  This accomplished by warm showers x2 daily and aiming water at site of tenderness.  Should respond 10 days
