Benign: Painful cramp can occur in any skeletal muscle in the body and by and large no cause can be identified. The condition is benign though very painful. If a specific muscle can be identified then Botox injection can help. A neurologist may be able to help you there.

Tension: Oftentimes, we keep our stress in the back on our neck or shoulders and it creates unnecessary tension.  This prolonged tension will then cause the muscles to tighten and create the ripple.  I recommend routine massages or self massage with a backknobber to help alleviate the muscle tightness.

It may help: Along with medications- tylenol, (acetaminophen) ibuprofen, meditation, sleep, massage, vacation ;#40;to vegas, but don&#x27;t gamble too much otherwise the spasm will get worse;#41; etc. Follow up with ur dr for any concern. Treatment..: This seem to be torticollis(severe spasm of neck muscle) and it may take a few days to heal. The immediate treatment recommended is icing the area and anti-inflammatory medication if you are not allergic( like ibuprofen). If  it persists for a few days you might need to see your doctor for formal evaluation and possible physical therapy referral. If symptoms become severe go to the urgent care.
