Why do you ask?: Leukemia and lymphoma are not chronic illnesses. Untreated leukemia tends to kill a child in a few weeks. Non-hodgkin's lymphoma is rare at your age and hodgkin's will make itself obvious. Your fatigue and sense of being weak require evaluation both from a physical and emotional perspective.

It's very treatable: In young children, the commonest type of lymphoma is hodgkins lymphoma. It repsonds very well to chemotherapy and radiation and the chance of cure is over 80-90% depending on the stage of disease. Yes it is a malignant condition but with the lastest treatment, the outlook is usually very good.

Common infection: EBV is one of the most common human viral infections, and up to 90% of adults are seropositive for antibodies (many infections produce no symptoms).  Up to 50% of children are positive by the age of 5.  Although there is a statistical link between EBV and lymphomas, this complication is very uncommon and the development of lymphoma is most likely due to combination with other risk factors.

Abonormal nodes: One reason for abnormal lymph node swelling would be leukemia or lymphoma.  They may test his blood, his bone marrow, or his lymph nodes.  I hope the tests are negative.  It is a test that's would want done if it were my child.  Good luck.

Get studied: This site does not offer diagnosis or treatment. Formaldehyde may or may not be an issue. It is one of many breakdown products of alcohol ingestion so many are exposed through life. If this is interfering with your enjoyment of life get a good workup done. A WBC as listed is not specific for anything.

Each type has different biology and different response to therapy, as well as different prognosis etc. However, in general, lymphoma is a chemosensitive disease and is a radiosensitive disease. Yes, some lymphoma can be cured.
