Varies: Most would consider 5  episodes, documented with a positive strep test worthy of a consultation with an ENT. Degree of morbidity while ill and other factors must be considered.Some (5%) of kids carry strep year round and do not have positive antibody tests, meaning their illness was viral but they tested + at the time.Tonsil removal does not end strep throats in susceptible kids.

Unlikely: The penicillin drugs are quite effective in killing strep.Five strep infections(if you actually had it confirmed) over 3 years is inconvenient but does not set you apart as special. There are about 5% or more of the population that carries strep year round without ever getting sick. You may have one in your social circle. They can pass it is easily as a sick one.

Yes and no: The removal of the palatine tonsils can reduce the "intensity" of illness when you get strep in the future, but it does not prevent you from getting it. After the tonsils are removed, there are still tissues and glands in the throat that can become infected, with the same risk of immune mediated complications.

Tonsillectomy in adu: Tonsillectomies in adults have about the same amount of bleeding as the children. They are definitely more painful.  You will lose a minimum of 8 to ten pounds.   Biggest problem post op is the pain. You will need to be medicated in order to get through the pain.  Good luck!  feel better.

Strep or not strep?: Germs can infect the walls of your throat, even when you don't have tonsils. Cold viruses can cause a sore throat, so 3+ episodes of these a year are common. If you have true streptococcus bacterial infections (verified by testing) often, you or a member of your household may be a carrier. That is, your immune system lets strep bacteria live like squatters in your throat, instead of killing them.

Let me explain: Experts can narrow recurring strep throat down to a few factors. One is that you have simply contracted a resistant form of the bacteria or your antibiotic has failed for some other reason. Another possibility is that you may have a weakened immune system. Another is that you are or someone in your family is a strep carrier.
