Common: This is a very common non-specific symptom that often gets a child taken to the er. Make sure that there is no heart or lung problem and if there is no obvious cause, I have found it repeatedly to be related to poor diet. This may sound strange but every cell in the body needs proper fuel to function properly and dietary mayhem is common.

Probably: There are many causes of chest pain in children.  Interestingly, chest pain is rarely due to heart diseases in children.  Overall, probably the most common causes of chest pain are musculoskeletal.  These include strained muscles, inflamed joints along the ribs, bone pain, etc.  Some children have pain related to lung problems, including asthma ; pneumonia.  Esophageal disorders (reflux) exist.

Many: Chest pain most commonly is musculoskeletal in children (it comes from the muscles and bones of the chest).  It can also be caused by gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn), pleurisy (pain from the  lining of the lungs, usually from infection), or, less commonly, from the heart of large blood vessels.  If the pain involves fever, weakness, or difficulty breathing, medical help should be obtained.

Unlikely the cause: Most infants with a hole at birth had it in the lower chambers and this closes by itself by a year of age. If you have chest pain at 17 years of age it is more likely due to other factors.Chest wall, swallowing tube and lung linings are far more likely origins at your age.A visit with your pcp can sort this out.

Have it evaluated.: A person with chest pain needs to be evaluated and treated appropriately.  Multiple possible causes may be: heart attack, esophageal reflux, anxiety, musculoskeletal, pneumonia, pulmonary embolus, and aortic dissection.  Have it evaluated right away to prevent potential serious complications.

Neuromuscular : scoliosis causes chest pain. SB is a neuromuscular condition that causes muscle weakness, spasticity or paralysis, making them unable to support the spine, resulting in scoliosis.  If not fused in adolescence, scoliosis can progress in adulthood. Premature  arthritis of SB includes the spine &amp; worsens with age. Spinal cord tethering can occur at any age. See your SB team for evaluation &amp; treatment

Must check the heart: A visit to one's primary care doctor now can help sort things out. If symptoms recur prior to the visit, one can go to the ER. A person with new or sudden chest pain and shortness of breath has to go to her doctor or the ER to be checked right away for a possible heart attack. That means not waiting at home to see if it turns into a bad heart attack. As the saying goes, "better safe than sorry."

Chest pain ? Serious: Any chest pain should be paid attention to.  Cardiac pain in men usually includes some nausea, sweatiness, and numb or tingling feelings into your neck, teeth or left arm.  

But, if the pain continues or worsens it is wise to get to the doctor or er.

Possible but evaluat: While it is possible for mastitis to cause permanent scarring, in most instances this resolves without any consequences. Your reports of ongoing pain are concerning and warrant evaluation by a specialist with possible diagnostic imaging.

corona: good day i was seen b my gp on the 12/3 fever got worse and went to causlty they gave me tamiflu 16/3 my fever improved now i still have chest pain diahree shoul i be tested, my youngest child has primary imminu deficincy and i am asthmatic?

Home/virtual appt: Influenza is often  assoc w coughing/ strained chest wall muscles. Diarrhea may be a side effect of the Tamiflu, but if it is associated with blood or mucus in the stool, please notify your physician. Drink fluids, rest at home and use a Probiotic to treat diarrhea.  Watch for signs of illness  such as fever, wheezing, shortness of breath and observe your child for symptoms/test.
