are fiber one protein bars acceptable in pregnancy? i read that chicory root extract which is contains, is dangerous. is that true?

Would avoid : In large doses, chicory root extract is not safe in pregnancy, increasing the  risk of bleeding or miscarriage. Since a azimuth safe dose is not known, you should avoid it.

are foods with flaxseed (kashi cereal) or chicory root fiber (fiber1 bars/kashi cereal) safe for pregnancy? 1st trimester? heard they can cause miscarriage and/or uterine contractions?

Pregnancy: I'm not a fan of taking anything like those during pregnancy. I feel a good prenatal multivitamin and nutritious diet suffice. I also feel all medications and supplements should be ok'd by your obstetrician. He/she and your pharmacist can advise you further and answer your question.

my tea has listed chicory root as one of the ingredients.   is this safe when i'm breastfeeding?

Chicory root: Chicory root is not recommended during breast feeding because of its many side effects.

are there any interactions between chicory root and prozac (fluoxetine). i heard that chicory is a good coffee alternative and i would like to try it.

Coffee substitute: Chicory root appears to have no known adverse interactions with any drugs. It may cause skin, respiratory, or intestinal allergies and it may induce uterine contractions...therefore it is not recommended in pregnancy. So if you are not pregnant or allergic to it, taking it with Prozac (fluoxetine) may be OK.

just realized that the probiotics i've been taking since i was 17 weeks pregnant (28 weeks now) are made with inulin from chicory root. worried!?

No reason to worry: Inulin is a naturally occurring carbohydrate from root vegetables that is not absorbed & used as a food source for probiotics & intestinal flora. It is fairly benign & there is no evidence that it is hazardous to take during pregnancy. However, it may feed unfriendly flora as well as friendly flora so may not be good for everyone. i have been super queezy and found a lemon ginger tea, but it contains roasted chicory.  should i avoid it.  it's by celestial seasoning.

Chicory is fine: ginger can help with nausea, as can lemon balm (Melissa), lemon verbena and lemon grass.  Not sure which of these is in your tea, but chicory shouldn't pose a problem.

Good for most but:: Chicory has nutrients like B6, Manganese and Vit c as well as inulin, a prebiotic that can improve GI health. It may lower blood sugar and reduce inflammation. However, it's not for everyone: some are allergic and get swelling and tingling of the mouth Those symptoms are obvious; if you try it and don't react then it's good for you.

i am on a capa diet, i found an alternat to coffee. it is made with chicory, barley, malt barley, and rye. is this drink ok on this diet?

Yes: If the bar says that it has fiber (soluble or insoluble), it can be added to your daily total.
