a few months ago i had a chest xray for pneumonia they found nothing... would that have shown if i had any other disease in my chest? specifically pulmonary edema?

Only some: Yes, pulmonary edema would have been picked up by chest X-ray, but not a pulmonary embolism or clot, for example. Not to mention other than pulmonary pathology, such as cardiac, gi or musculoskeletal that are typically not picked up in such circumstances by a chest X-ray.

Yes: The collection of fluid in the lung called pulmonary edema will show up on a chest xray as a hazy white area in the area of the lung with the fluid. The areas are often dependent or lower areas because gravity can make the fluid collect in one place or another.

how to differentiate pleural effusion and pulmonary edema in an x-ray?

Accepted Answer

Different: Pleural effusion is fluid around the lung. Pulmonary edema is fluid in the lung itself causing infiltrates and linear densities in the lung bases as the fluid distends the pulmonary lymphatics.

what does this mean? im worried?

: All imaging results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that,it would have helped to know your symptoms and the reason for these tests.

what does this mean? im worried i have lung or heart disease?

Accepted Answer

: The finding states that it is a mild or slight prominence. Correlation to your history, symptoms and family history of cardiovascular and pulmonary disease are recommended. Please consider weight reduction, metabolic testing and cardiac evaluation after discussion with your PCP. You may have allergic disease and lab based testing is available. Avoid smoke, dust, pollen, animal dander.

dyspnea and edema in legs for 9 months. no smoking, had lung function test with and without bronc. 100% normal. spitting up phlegm 2-3 times a day, ct with contrast and x-ray shows no pulmonary edema. no chf. echo normal any ideas? i hate this?

: Another cause of fluid retention can come from kidney malfunction. Have your Dr's looked at your kidney function? It is possible with reduced kidney function that fluid is retained and causes shortness of breath, as well as edema in legs. Make sure you go back to your Dr and ask "what next?". Since you do not yet have a diagnosis, and they have ruled out heart problems, you need additional testing

Yes: Shortness of breath is more common, but chest pressure and pain are not unusual.

Not typical: CP is usually not a symptom of pulmonary edema. They may have sob, hypoxemia, anxiety or wheezing.

Not really : what is your definition of slight injury? If we are talking trauma, like a blow to the chest, then you would more likely see a pulmonary contusion or maybe a lung collapse than effusion or edema.  Those two things describe fluid around the lung (effusion) or waterlogged lung tissue, like a sponge in the case of edema. The mechanisms for these are not usually related to trauma or injury per se
