Need to quiz your: Med onc about alk and egfr mutations. These molecular markers have specific drugs that can cause response and improve survival. That said, you should also query about third or fourth line drugs and potential benefit and toxicity. Ask about palliative care to deal with symptoms, you do not have to suffer awful sie effects in a futile effort. Acceptance is not giving up, it acknowledges limits.

Nutrition: Treatment of all ill health must include optimizing one's life style. Take. 1-2 TBS cod liver oil (flavored) daily. Organic butter 2 TBS daily. Try to eliminate all commercially processed foods. Drink 2 quarts water daily. Eat 5-7 fresh / frozen deeply pigmented fruits / vegetables daily. If pt is anorexic, juicing the fruits/veggies may work better in the short term. Wild fish i.e. Salmon, tuna.

Cautiously: The main issue is that someone on chemotherapy is going to be very susceptible to infections. As a result, make sure that your kids aren't sick, don't have fevers or runny noses, etc before you bring them round. It's also a good idea to make sure you kids have had all their vaccinations.

Yes and No: Stage 4 lung cancer is an incurable type of cancer. Only about half of the patients respond to chemotherapy and that benefit lasts for no more than 6 to 12 months. That is about all one can do in the present state of cancer treatemnt. Once cancer has progressed despite chemotherapy it is good to seek palliative care/hospice care to help her to go through rest of her life with least bit of sufferin.

Hard to say/depends.: At this stage of lung cancer, the options are limited as is survival. If treatment is done , it's usually chemotherapy and radiation and/or surgery after adjuvant chemotherapy. There are certainly trials out there and i would recommend talking to your doctor before starting any, but the chance for success is likely limited, as the 5 year survival of stage IV is <5%, but it doesn't hurt to try.

It depends.: It depends on the cancer type.   In small-cell lung carcinoma, Cisplatin and Etoposide are used.  In advanced non-small cell lung carcinoma, two drugs are used, with one is often platinum-based (either Cisplatin or carboplatin). Other commonly used drugs are gemcitabine, Paclitaxel and docetaxel.  Vinorelbine and Cisplatin is more effective in aduvant chemo..  Regardless, 5 year survival is <5%.
