Chlamydia testing: A heavy bleeding from a cervical ectropion sound unusual, but I would not completely dismiss it. I would want to be sure, other factors have been ruled out, e.g., a chlamydia infection, and I would want to be sure that testing for HPV is negative, making is highly unlikely that this could be cervical dysplasia.

Cervical ectropion ?: Cervical ectropion is caused by irritation of the cervix connected with sexual relations, and minor vaginal infections.  If the Pap smear is normal, it is easily treated. See your gyn physician to discuss.

Common: Cervical ectropian does go away and it does not affect the chances of pregnancy unless doctor has confused ectropion with inflammation from a std, for example.  If you're worried, make sure you're free from stds, otherwise, i wouldn't worry about it. We see it all the time and is a normal variation.

Cervix ?'s: "Cervical ectropion" is a reference to an inflammatory condition of the cervix, which (if the Pap smear is normal) can be treated easily by hot or cold cautery.  A "cervical polyp" oringinates inside the uterus but may be seen at the opening of the cervix.  It can be removed by a simple office procedure.  Neither of these will "go away" without treatment.

Cervical ?'s: Cervical ectropion is a common condition of inflammation of the cervix, and is not related to the use of a cup.  Polyps are growths inside the uterus, and can be occasionally seen at the cervical opening in the vagina.  Both can be resolved easily, but require minor surgical and cautery procedures.

Not typical: Cervical ectropion is usually just an anatomic variant and not an abnormality. It is possible that this could cause bleeding but is not a common cause.  I would confirm the diagnosis. Cervical polyps, endometrial polyps, fibroids, infections and many other things are a more likely cause.

Why Treated?: Cervical Ectropion is usually a normal, asymptomatic variation of the cervix, rarely requiring treatment unless vaginal discharge or post-coital (after sex) bleeding is very bothersome. The 1st treatment is usually to stop OCPs (like Yaz) which are often the cause of this phenomenon, Otherwise electrocautery is performed to ablate the bleeding vessels. Silver nitrate is not as effective.

Do you need it?: Usually no treatment is required. I doubt the cause is the guy being big. If it's uncomfortable, a gynecologist can remove it as a simple procedure.

One week: If the silver nitrate treatment is not disturbed by tampons or intercourse.
