Not good: It somewhat depends on the extent of the herniations, but this can be very painful and debilitating. Injections and sometimes surgery is required.

Bone between two dis: This means there is an osseous (a bone) connection between the two vertebrae you had surgery on. Since the two are  connected, have  bone growth into it and attached it is called  a bone bridge

Accepted Answer

Caution: With undue trauma (such as a whiplash injury), you could cause damage to your cervical spine. I cannot say what precautions you should follow because the differences in the degree if stenosis points in the direction of treatment like pt verse surgery and everything in between. Avoid any physician who wanted to do high velocity manipulation at this time. Consider seeing a neurosurgeon to clarify.

: In a normal x-ray/CT/MRI of the neck a gradual curve from the back of the head to the back. After a stressful event causes the neck muscles to tighten, the curve is less. By itself it is just the radiologist describing a finding that differs from a relaxed patient.  Radiologists get fussed at if they just say "straightening of the neck or normal variant" .

i had a cervical fusion of c4 and c5 back in 2007; is it normal that i still have pain mostly every day in my neck and back?

Re-evaluate neck: It usually is not normal to have pain almost daily after a cervical fusion 5 years later. If it is significant pain, then it needs to be re-evaluated. X-rays may need to be taken with the neck flexed forward and also extended backward. Additional testing may be needed depending on exam findings and possibly the x-ray results.

Muscle spasm: Muscle spasm pulls the cervical spin out of its normal curvature. Massage, physical therapy, exercises, manipulation, acupuncture, or medications may help.

Should not: The nerves exiting C3-C4 supply shoulders, arms, hands, and parts of upper back and chest. Pain can cause dizziness by causing the Vagus nerve to be stimulated. Dizziness has a large variTion if causes. Key is to differentiate between vertigo-or spinning of room and no vertigo

Pinched nerve: Causes neck pain and pain down your arm or into the shoulder  area. Usually responds  to  meds, pt  but if it doesn't then surgery is necessary

Neck Pain: To avoid surgery try Necercises and Aleve (naproxen).  The conservative and surgical Rx is outlined in my book, "Stop Your Neck Pain and Headache Now." You have degenerative disc disease and the disc would best be replaced with a "new" one instead of bone. The learning curve for the surgeon is not steep and the published results are superior to a fusion.

what is the best neck exercise for post op posterior cervical foraminotomy? (i also had an anterior acf - c4-5 & 5-6 - 4 mos out for severe stenosis).

Ask your Surgeon: With your underlying spinal issues and previous surgery, it is important to ask your Neuro-surgeon/Surgeon what exercises are best for you, as each pt is different and your specific case may warrant a different recommendation regarding the exercises you should be doing.
