These are routine: procedures. Takes a minute to clean the skin well, then blood drawing for blood culture is like any blood drawing. Inserting an IV is much like blood drawing. cetriaxone can be infused quickly .. a few minutes. slow drip wouldn't be a great deal different IM is immediate.

Ice 15 minutes /day: Keep site clean and dry, and apply ice as above,  pain med with anti-inflammatory activity (ibuprofen, naproxen) should take care of it. The complications of an im injections are worrisome, so may need checking with the doc.  Is an abscess forming; is a cellulitis (infection in surrounding skin tissue)'starting.   As with any other problem, c doc if persisted, become red and hot and painful.

Unknown: Ascorbic acid is generally given by mouth and there is much debate on how long it lasts in the human body. The half life is described in the medical literature as being anywhere between 30 min and 17 days.  In general we think of vitamin c levels easily reaching capacity and having a relatively short half life which is why we advise for daily oral supplementation.

Many sites: Intramuscular injections allow for slow absorption of the active components of an injection as opposed to subcutaneous which is usually faster.  The most common sites are the deltoid, biceps, anterior thigh and gluteal region.  The anterior thigh is easiest to do yourself.  Hopefully whoever prescribed this injection instructed you on how to do it.

Not a nurse!: The sciatic nerve runs under the muscles of the buttocks.  While we try to avoid injecting anywhere near that nerve by injecting to the outside part of the muscle, the nerve can be affected.  If the nerve itself was injected, u would have PAIN.  It's more likely that some of the medication traveled to that area indirectly.  Give it a week.  You should be fine.

Small: Not that these cannot occur, but considering the number of these types of injections that are done, they are rare - especially done " by the books" or with the proper technique which is by giving it in the upper outer quadrant of the buttocks, away from the sciatic notch where the nerve is..

is it possible to get an air embolism from a covid-19 vaccine shot? or is that not possible because it is an intramuscular injection? thanks?

: There is no need to speculate about an air embolism from a vaccine jab.  This to my knowledge has never occurred with any vaccine, and certainly not with the COVID-19 vaccine.  Get your vaccination ASAP, as the risk of infection complications is very real.
