my mri shows indidental cavum septum pellucida...... i definetly don't have skitzophrenia..... is this bad to have? does it mean im more likely to have dimensia when im older? im 24

Not to worry : For the majority of individuals, this finding produces no ill effects. The cause is unknown but prenatal alcohol exposure may play a role.  The association of CSP with disorders such as Schizophrenia, PTSD, and dementia is loose. Hope this helps.

20 week scan was perfect cavum  septum was all there everything in the brain good genetics testing was good ,go to this bad quality ultrasound. they used travel equipment saying couldnt get pic of cabin septum at 22 week, it cant be there then not?

: Rely on the "20 week" ultrasound, as poor quality ultrasound equipment may not define any abnormalities properly.  A follow-up ultrasound at another facility should confirm the accuracy of the "20 week U/S".

No concerns.: Specifically, no evidence of tumor, cyst or stroke, hemmorrhage or blood clot. About 15 % of adults have persistence of a fluid filled cavity that is present in all embryos but usually disappears with growth, called the cavum septum pellucidum et vergae, so it is called a normal variant.  I hope the original problem that prompted the CT has resolved.

Probably normal: The septum pellucidum is a normal midline structure in the brain. When this thin membrane is split it forms a cavity. This may represent a normal anatomic variant or a incomplete form of midline developmental anomalies such as dysgenesis of the corpus callosum. Enlarged cavum septum pellucidum have variously been associated with schizophrenia, affective disorder&other neuropsychiatric disorders.

Fetal brain: Cavum septum pellucidi is a fluid-filled space less than 10 mm wide between the frontal horns of the lateral ventricles of the brain, and below the anterior portion of the corpus callosum (connects the two hemispheres of the brain). If it is not seen on fetal head ct between 18 and 37 weeks, midline malformations may be present, and a thorough exam of the fetal CNS should be done.

Rhinoscopy: You need to have your doctor look in your nose the deviation can be seen with a regulat nasal rhinoscopy  or if it was deep, then needs ENT

Vasoconstriction: Cocaine constricts the blood vessels in the septum. Lack of oxygen leads to cell death... Then destruction and "hole".

Piercing: Of course it will hurt if you pierce your septum and dimples. The nose is very sensitive and the piercing has to go through several layers. You put yourself at risk for infection and scarring, too. Piercing through your dimple is a bad idea too. You risk infection and scarring and there is the added risk of damage to the facial nerve resulting in a crooked smile.
