Painful hernia: A hernia that becomes 'trapped' or 'incarcerated' can become painful and swollen.  It sounds like your umbilical hernia has recently changed from asymptomatic to symptomatic.  This means it could be 'trapped' and you should see a doc now to get some treatment.  The problem is, an infection can result and the hernia can 'burst' - so please go now to an ER and get some help.

Unsure: Swelling of the flank can be looseness of the muscles, inflammation of the muscles, distention of the left colon (large intestine) with stool and gas (most likely scenario). Or a tumor (which is unlikely to go away!).  Hernias are rare in the flank.  I would suspect a buildup of gas and stool; you may benefit from a fiber supplement like benefiber or a laxative like miralax (polyethylene glycol).  Good luck!

had a robotic keyhole myomectomy 3 weeks ago. the umbilical incision is painful and swollen. so is the area around the navel. could it be hernia? the swelling on top of the belly button never gone down?

: There are many possible etiologies-including an incisional infection. You should call the surgeon so this can be examined and treated by the surgeon. You may need antibiotics if it is an infection and it may need to be treated if it is a hernia. But, your surgeon needs to examine you to make a diagnosis. Good luck!

A HERNIA: usually the only thing that will cause swelling in the navel is umbilical hernia.you do not have to have pain to have a hernia.
see a surgeon, for evaluation,and if it is big enough for surgery,then that will take care of it.

Could be infection: Tha  pain could be coming from inside the navel itself, and there could be an infection within the c losed skin space of the navel, also called the umbilicus.  The pain could also be coming from the muscle wall, or from  inside your abdomen, and could be caused by intestinal, pancreatic or liver disease. If it persists, go to your doctor for a checkup.

i have a weird sensitive feeling around my navel. whenever something touches the skin there i feel like cringing. what could cause that?

Sensitive nerves: The sensory nerves on our skin can, at times, become overactive.  This can cause sudden sensitivity to touch, numbness, tingling, cold/warm sensation or pain.  This typically goes away on its own, but see a physician if it persists or worsens.
