was told my transvaginal sono was "cloudy" and walls were thick what could cause that? what could this be signs of?

Vaginal Sonogram: This result should be discussed with your doctor who ordered the sono. He or she would have spoken with the radiologist who did the sono and get an understanding of what is means. It could have been just a study that was of poor quality.

problems transvaginal mesh, slings etc. do pig tissue slings cause similar problems (erosion etc)?  what compications are associated with pig tissue?

Porcine tissue graft: Porcine grafty is natural and will not erode but there is a higher rate of reoccurence of the problem fore which it is placed  as it is natural tissue and not permanent mesh.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Rarely. In patients who have not yet engaged in sexual intercourse, it is common and therefore not typically performed. In patients who have engaged in intercourse previously, it can rarely occur.  However, i would estimate it at &lt;3% and there are many more common causes than transvaginal ultrasound.

Accepted Answer

Yes: I imagine that if the operator was forceful enough then there could be disruption of the hymen. If your hymen is intact but you are able to use tampons then the probe can probably be introduced with plenty of lubricant and gentle, steady pressure. You could ask to insert it yourself. If an intact hymen is important to you may consider declining a tv exam.

Of What?: Of a tight, intact hymen? Yes it can. The vagina? If the examiner suddenly thought she or he was churning butter, or had a severe seizure during the exam then it might happen but i never saw such an occurrence.

Accepted Answer

Varies: A vaginal infection (such as yeast), or a pelvic infect, an ovarian cyst, a uterine infection, etc could make the exam quite painful bit even endometriosis could have that effect as well.  Your doctor should be able to determine what is wrong.

ok so i had my dating ultrasound. im a week ahead 8 weeks 2-3 days. they saying definitely over 8 weeks but i thought i was 7 weeks 4 days. we didn't even have to do transvaginal cause she said i'm definitely over 8 weeks. could they be wrong ?

Accuracy may vary: A careful transvaginal (not transabdominal)  pelvic sonogram (a "first trimester dating scan") performed by a certified sonographer using a well calibrated machine and proper scannig techniques is usually quite reliable and fairly accurate (plus or minus a few days) in dating your pregnancy. A follow up pregnancy sonogram in a few weeks should help answer your concerns and confirm your dates.

hi i had a transvaginal scan yesterday and it showed the sac this was because i was bleeding. i've been bleeding brown blood and now started bleeding dark red to light red blood which is on and off. i was wondering if this could be cause of the scan?

Transvaginal U/S ?: With bleeding as a reason to perform a transvaginal U/S, and showing a "sac" without showing a fetus, given the continued bleeding after the scan, the pregnancy may not persist.  The vaginal probe may start cervical bleeding, so it is advisable to have another scan or a serum quantitative HCG test to see if the pregnancy is still viable.

Variety of things: A variety of things could cause it. Vaginal dryness, lack of lubricant on the sonogram, placing too much pressure on the probe, a problem in the bladder, rectum, uterus or ovaries are all a few of the possibilities. Finding out if anything abnormal was found on the sonogram is the next step.

More testing: Absence of menstrual cycles is most commonly due to extremes of weight (thin/heavy), thyroid, pituitary, or (rarely) ovarian failure.  Has your doctor checked your TSH and prolactin levels? Are you at a normal weight?  If worried about ovarian failure, need fsh and Estradiol checked as well.  Good luck!
