Many things: Csr is an eye disease which causes visual impairment, often temporarily, usually in one eye, mostly affecting males in the age group 20 to 50 but which may also affect women. This condition may be caused by the use of cortisol or corticosteroids. Csr is a fluid detachment of macula layers from their supporting tissue allowing choroidal fluid to leak into the subretinal space.

Yes: Hydroxychloroquine-associated retinopathy is more common based on a higher cumulative dosage.  For standard doses, your risk will increase after 5 years of use, but if you are using a higher dose or are petite that will affect the timeline.  Your rheumatologist and/or ophthalmologist should be able to give you more guidance.

Clinical trials such as the dcct, edic, ukpds, accord, ukpds-hds, field have shown that if glucose levels, blood pressure, cholesterol, and lipids are not controlled diabetic retinopathy can get worse and lead to severe vision loss. Trials such as the etdrs, drs, drvs show that eye physicians can delay blindness.

Unknown: This is a condition of vascular serum leakage in the macular area occurring most commonly in the middle years.  It is painless but disturbs the vision, sometimes significantly.  No procedure  or medication seems to help except in the uncommon cases when a single vessel can be identified as leaking - then it can be laser sealed.  Otherwise we ask the patient to just wait it out.
