have lupus & was dignosed with arthritis lumbar spine. is it common for arthritis of lumbar spine to worsen with sitting and improve with movement such as walking? mine does. and can arthritis of spine cause leg radiculopathy?

: Movement and/or exercise can indeed symptomatically relieve arthritic joint pains temporarily.  If lumbosacral spondylosis progresses, foraminal encroachment can compress nerve roots upon exit, but associated degenerative disc disease could result in rupture and nerve root compression as another mechanism.

Likely neuropathy: With your history of diabetes and obesity, it most likely a neuropathy related to your diabetes and has a lot to do with your previous and current sugar control. It could also be a radiculopathy related to nerve compression in your back. The two conditions will need to be scrutinized with history and physical.

pain returned with 2x2" swelling above 2 wk microdiscectomy incision. when compressed it causes same preop radiculopathy pain. what could cause this?

Swelling post op: If the bulging feels like fluid, it could be a spinal fluid leak, which is a known risk of spinal surgery. You should contact your surgeon.

lumbar radiculopathy: dr says i don't have disk problems, i've not had an injury to my back, so what else could cause that? is it permenant?

Multiple causes: Degenerative disc disease can cause symptoms. Mri could reveal pinched nerves if pain and weakness become severe.  If steroids are used for asthma could have osteoporosis and compression fractures. Lab work could determine inflammatory causes. Emg could define type of nerve involvement. Recent birth could result in si joint  or pubic pain. Conservative  therapy with nsaids, rest or epidurals help.

could compression at c5-c6. c6-c7 causing radiculopathy also be the cause of headaches?  i never had headaches until the radiculopathy started

Occipital Neuralgia?: 58 year old lady with cervical spinal stenosis and headaches concerned whether headaches could be caused by cervical symptoms. Radiculopathy refers to referred pain along the course of compressed nerve root. While most headaches are not due to cervical spine problems, compression of branches of your occipital nerve C2/C3  can cause headaches in the posterior part of your head. Get new exam/imaging

Yes it can.: The upper cervical nerves C4 and C5 innervates the shoulder. You will then likely have pinched nerve at C3/4 or C4/5. Shoulder joint wear and tear is also common and can make it confusing. It is unlikely for you to have both. You need spine surgeon and a shoulder specialist to help you out.

Facet Arthropathy: Could be facet arthropathy/arthritis.  There are joints in the spine where the bones articulate and can develop bone spurs and cause the clicking with pain typically with extension.  I would consider seeing a pain/spine specialist to see if facet injections or radio frequency ablation would be helpful for you.

Insufficient data: Does "neuro" mean neurologist or neurosurgeon? Why did you meekly accept the answer but then post here? Ask doc to explain the neuroanatomy: EXACTLY what cervical levels, roots &amp;/or nerves are affected &amp; which ones involve breathing &amp; which swallowing. Ask to review test results (MRI, CT, myelogram or EMG/NCS). Finally, if no treatment is recommended, I suggest seeking another opinion.
