It is possible by history, examination, and blood tests alone an answer can be obtained, but often a kidney biopsy is needed to determine the cause. IVC occlusion: Whoa. +2 proteinuria does not cause massive edema of your lower body. I suspect you have occlusion of your inferior vena cava by a thrombus perhaps propagated from a renal vein, or occlusion by somthing, perhaps tumor in or around it. Get with a consultant physician who's a good communicator.
