Your dentist may prescribe an antimicrobial mouth rinse corticosteroid ointment to control the pain and irritation.

Yes: Listerine contains alcohol and other chemical ingredients that can cause a reaction in the mouth that can lead to mouth ulcers.  One of the ingredients, methyl salicylate, has been shown to cause allergic reactions and contact dermatitis.  You should consider stopping the listerine to see if it helps.

Probably virus: Most oral ulcers are either apthous ulcers (canker sores) or herpetic ulcers.  Both are viral and cannot be eliminated from your body.  A fever, exposure to sun, and stress, among other things, can stimulate these viruses to produce ulcers.  Your dentist can prescribe meds that may reduce the duration and severity of the ulcers, and, very importantly, rule out anything more serious.

Why ulcers there: Depends on where it exactly is and what it looks like.  Mouth ulcers can be a matter of simple using an rx Peridex (chlorhexidine gluconate) soak, or it can be more serious even up to a cancer.  This needs to be evaluated by a dentist for what it is and what is the best to do.

Short answer is yes.: Any irritant consistently applied to tissue can cause premalignant lesions that can later turn malignant. If you are abusing methamphetamines, then other systemic health problems may also ensue that are just as serious!  please call your physician, dentist or drug help line for help as soon as possible! don't ruin your life!
