Esophagitis: Eosinophilic esophagitis can cause spasm and delay in esophageal motility. Are u currently being treated? You need to be on a ppi +/- a inhaled steroid that should be swallowed to treat the inflammation..  The burning most likely represents acid reflux that you are having in addition to eoe. You should consult with your GI as soon as possible.

Unusual: Since EoE is not that common, it is unusual to find both partners having the same issue (although your husband's biopsy is not diagnostic but presumptive if symptoms are compatible). There have been reports showing seasonal changes in EoE symptoms attributed to airborne allergens. Thus it is possible that an airborne allergen could have caused your EoE which however is mostly caused by food

2 yr old dxd with eoe and gp - was on swallowed budesonide for eoe  for 3 months - egd showed hsv esophagitis - did steroid cause hsv?

No: A steroid cannot  cause hsv infection. Hsv is a virus that  is transmitted to children often transplacentally from the mother in utero. Certainly, the virus can be transmitted orally via oral contact with someone carrying the virus. The steroid can suppress the immune system and allow the virus to activate and become a problem, as it did in this child's esophagus.

have gerd  90 days. mostly after i eat gas and  pressure from mid stomach to throat i was  told i have eoe fprior scopes. could my norvasc (amlodipine) cause this?

EOE: Probably not. There is more evidence rearding delayed food reactions.

are long term corticosteroids the way to go once diagnosed with eoe?

: Standard first line therapy is topical ( swallowed) corticosteroids for about 2 months.  Some patients need only avoidance of certain foods. Others may be tried on acid prevention meds like omeprazole first. Longterm corticosteroids are to be avoided.

Eliminate food: Usually allergy test is recommended to find out a specific food allergy which can be eliminated in the diet but before the test is performed the common food causing alley like dairy , eggs, peanut, tree nut ,soy , wheat &amp; fish can be eliminated initially  until allergy is proven .

: Some specialists are treating chronic and prolonged inflammatory type cases with monoclonal antibody therapy. I'd call the department of gastroenterology at a university hospital and ask for a consultation with a gastroenterologist with a special interest in eosinophilic esophagitis.

: By UPTODATE: No formulation of topical glucocorticoids has been approved specifically for EoE in the United States, while the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and Health Canada approved budesonide in an orodispersible tablet formulation for adults with EoE. Among topical glucocorticoids, fluticasone and budesonide have been best studied. Yes, off label use in the US.

: Esophageal inflammation is to be taken seriously, most often related to gastric reflux and a predisposing factor in developing Barrett's Syndrome, a pre-cancerous change with critical implications. Whoever diagnosed you with inflammation should be able to guide you on what the next stage you should follow to protect yourself should be.  Best wishes.
