Tingling: Carpal tunnel typically causes tinging not pain in all the fingers except the little. If you are having pain it could be from a trigger finger?

Ulnar nerve: The ulnar nerve controls feeling to the small and ring fingers.  This nerve can be pressed on at the elbow.  Try not to lean on your elbow too much.  If it does not go away get it checked out.

Below: The medial nerve or carpal tunnel affects the thumb side and the pinkie side is usually the ulnar.

No: The distribution of numbness is not consistent with carpal tunnel. It is more consistent with an ulnar nerve entrapment. Have it evaluated.

Get localization : A predominant ulnar nerve problem plus carpal tunnel syndrome associated with neck and shoulder pain is consistent with brachial plexus or cervical pathology.  Most likely thoracic outlet and EMG is needed

what are some finger/hand exercises that help prevent carpal tunnel?

Prevention: I am not aware of any exercise that does this, but be aware that cts mostly is a cumulative trauma disorder, associated with repetitive flexion/extension of wrist due to keyboard work, assembly line work, etc.  Might consider wrist pad for computer, might try wrist splints, at night, might supplement one b-100 complex daily, and avoid the above risks.

Carpal tunnel: First I would ask you if carpal tunnel syndrome was diagnosed by physician or are you assuming this is what you have? If you do have Carpal tunnel and numbness is constant it is very likely time for surgery. This is especially true if you have tried splinting without success. You run the risk of permanent nerve damage. This is not terribly difficult or risky surgery.

See below:: This could be carpal t syndrome plus cubital ts where the other nerve to the hand (ulnar) gets trapped at the elbow; and more rarely ulnar can get trapped at the wrist, on the little finger side.
Also nerves getting pinched in the neck can also cause a similar picture.

what could be cause of jolts of pain down fingers when hand gets cold.  have recently had carpal tunnel surgery.?

Nerves waking up: It could be several things, but its not unusual to have a flare up of pain after cts as sensation returns. It can also be caused by scar, post-operative inflammation, and over use.  Try ice and anti-inflammatories like Aleve (naproxen) or advil. If it persists, a short course of supervised therapy may help, including de-sensitization exercises like working your handa dn fingers in a pot of dried beans.

how do i know if i have carpal tunnel syndrome in my hand? i've been feeling a strange feeling in my right hand between my middle and ring finger. i've also got pain in my hand, when i try stretching it then it's painful?

: Sensations of weakness and numbness especially over several fingers may indicate that you have carpal tunnel syndrome, which is an inflammation of the median nerve and compression as it passes under the Carpal ligament in your wrist. Treatment includes rest, ice, stretching exercises and antiinflammatory meds. See a Dr if it worsens as they may choose to cut the ligament trapping the nerve.
