i use burt's bees lip balm and now i have sore lips it is not a canker sore. if you look at my profile picture you will see them. please help ?

Best be seen: In general, given the dry weather after the snowstorm, irritant dermatitis of the lips is common; worsened by lip licking. Furthermore, lip balms often trigger allergic reactions, exacerbating the condition. Steroids may be needed, but get checked first for virus/cold sore or cheilitis; see primary care/urgent care, or video chat. Can't diagnose here.

Mouth sore: You may have leukoplakia, which may be precancerous. Get checked out by a dentist, oral surgeon or dermatologist.

Canker sore: Canker sores (aphthous ulcers) are shaped like a crater and normally occur on the tongue, inside of the lip and the cheek, and the floor of the mouth.  Cold sores are groups of blisters that usually occur on the outside of the lip and are caused by the herpes simplex virus.
Both will usually heal on their own in 7-10 days. Check with your dentist for zsuggestions zon how to alleviate any pain.

Canker or cold sore?: If it is on the inside of the lip it is a canker sore and can be managed with zilactin. An ointment available without rx at a drug store. Initially stings a little but then your done.

Ice : If your lip is swollen, place ice on it to reduce swelling and lessen pain. The canker sore will go away in about a week.

Canker sores: Canker sores can be caused by stress, an injury such as biting the lip, acidic foods. The exact cause is unknown.
Canker sores heal on their own in 5-7 days.
For protection from irritation during eating, apply orabase ointment (non prescription), which sticks to the sore to keep it covered.

Apthous Ulcer: Cancer sores, or apthous ulcers, are usually the result of trauma or stress-induced activation of the herpes simplex 1 virus, to which most have been exposed. There are many types of herpes simplex viruses, so this does not necessarily indicate an STD. Most are painful and can last from 7-10 days, similar to a cold virus. Painless ulcerations should prompt evaluation by a physician.
