Canker sore: Canker sores (aphthous ulcers) are shaped like a crater and normally occur on the tongue, inside of the lip and the cheek, and the floor of the mouth. Cold sores are groups of blisters that usually occur on the outside of the lip and are caused by the herpes simplex virus. Both will usually heal on their own in 7-10 days.
