Discuss w/oncologist: Prostate cancer which has spread to bone is not curable WITH CURRENTLY AVAILABLE treatments.  However, current treatments can improve quality of life and duration of survival for years. Hormonal therapy is usual first-line treatment.

Very unlikely: positive bone scan does not mean cancer
any recent activity in the bone from recent healing,to a inflammation,to possible infection will cause hot spot on bone scan
papillary thyroid cancer is not known to be super aggressive and the chance of metastases to the bone is super rare.
check with your doctor most likely it will be something simple

i had chemo for breast cancer and a bone scan indicated a spot on my clavicle.  my br cancer is gone but not the spot on the clavicle. what is it?

Hard to answer: Without seeing the images its difficult to answer this question. Where in the clavicle (i.E mid vs at sternoclavicular joint), morphology of the lesion and correlation to cross sectional imaging like ct/mri are important in further delineating the possible etiology of the "spot" (increased uptake in radiology lingo). It's also important to mention if you had trauma to the area. Talk to your doc!

Could be...: ...But bone scans can be non specific and other events happening in the bone (even arthritis or old fractures) can show up too.  Needs to be put in context. Why was it done?  Any symptoms?  Do you have already been diagnosed with cancer?  Old trauma?  Whosoever ordered that test needs to sit with you and go over its implications and what else to do. Best to you.

my dr gave script for a bone scan. admin assistant put in pet scan to insurance. long story. getting nowhere. will a pet scan show bone cancer the way a bone scan will? not even sure if it will be authorized bc of mistake. waiting since 12/7. in pain?

Bone scan vs pet sca: I would just go ahead with the bone scan as I don't believe authorization by the insurance company will be required.   Judging from my experience with insurance companies, my guess is that the Pet Scan won't be authorized if the only indication listed for the reason for it is "pain".

Serious: Metastatic prostate cancer is not curable with currently available treatments. Treatment, however, does improve quality of life and may add years to life. The first step is usually hormonal therapy. I recommend you consult a medical oncologist.

No: There is no evidence that bone scan is related to or caused cancer. Bone scan is used to detect certain process in the bone- like cancer, infection in the bone, fractures etc.  If  a cancer detected in the bone by a bone scan- it 's not the bone scan that causes the cancer- but mainly there is a cancer somewhere else that spreads to the bone or the cancer originates from the bone itself.

Bone scan: The question is why do you want one?  Insurance won't approve testing unless it is indicated. Ensure proper calcium and vitamin d. As well as proper weight bearing exercise.

No -Nonspecific: Called "false positives" when this is the case.  Can be in joints (common); prior fractures; benign bony abnormalities. Next step may be mri, plain x-rays or biopsy t better characterize or define cause.

Probably not: A bone scan is done by administering a dose of a radioactive isotope into the blood stream. By itself, this is not harmful. However, low doses of radiation exposure over a prolonged time can lead to cancer, though the amount needed to do this is not really known. As long as you do not need frequent tests requiring radiation exposure, there is little risk from a single bone scan.
