how long after retinal detachment surgery can i start to wear my contact lenses again? as i do not have glasses only contacts.

Accepted Answer

Ask your eye surgeon: Your surgeon is the only one who knows the particulars about your case and his surgery.  Call his office and find out the answer, or make a follow up appointment with him to get your questions fully answered, if the office staff relays advice that you have questions about.

had cryopexy retina repair surgery thursday and a recheck today. was needing a -.75 contact lens in that eye before the tear and surgery and now reading 20/20 with no correction at all. how did that happen? shortening the axis or maybe temp swelling?

Accepted Answer

: It could be temporary from corneal change.  Your retina surgeon will tell you when your regular ophthalmologist should recheck your eyesight as part of a postop checkup.  He/she will let you know,  only after full healing, whether you're back to nearsightedness.

i have -5d myopia , can i play soccer and do wieghtlifting wearing contact lenses or these activities are harmful for my retina?(my retina is healthy so far?

Accepted Answer

: While weight lifting can cause temporary increase in intraocular pressure and,thus, cause or aggravate glaucoma it shouldn't affect your retinas. Contact lenses are not a problem for weight lifting or soccer.  Your ophthalmologist can validate this information for you.

Accepted Answer

: Do not see any rationale to avoid playing soccer, based upon your myopia.  Yes, you could have contact and get injured, but that would be true for any player.  Just make sure you address any future injuries in a timely fashion.

how do i stop cloudy film from forming inside my contac lens? i have been wearing gas permeable contact lenses without any significant problems. in the last 6 months, everytime i put my contact lenses on- the right lens gets cloudy and it has a film over

Accepted Answer

This : This could be a fit issue where debris is being trapped.  It could also be the gpc as previously mentioned.  I also see similar issues with severe lid inflammation and contact lens use - make sure you are cleaning your eyelids very well each day.  I also feel patients that use make-up around the eyes need to be careful with contact lens use.  It is amazing the amount of make-up that makes its way into the tear film.

Contacts: Probably yes but please contact your eye doctor for certainty.

can you wear contact lenses with muro 128 if you wait 15 minutes after using. how many minutes should you wait to put in glaucoma drop after muro drop?

Accepted Answer

Yes: My advice with any ocular prescribed medication is to wait a minute of 5' between drop instillation. As far as contact lens wear, as long as your treating MD (ie the doctor who is recommending Muro 128 for decreasing corneal edema) has indicated to you that wearing contacts is reasonably safe, then similarly wait 5'+. Don't use the Muro ointment with contacts though. You may use it at bedtime.

Yes: As long as the contact lens is comfortable.

Ask your doctor: This is not a question that can be answered generically. Depends on the type of contact and the health of your eye.  Ask the doctor that prescribed the contacts.

can i wear contact lenses with a cataracts or not?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Contact lenses are like glasses in that they correct any refractive error.  If a cataract is causing a refractive error (i.e. Myopia) without decreasing the sharpness much due to cloudiness, then contact lenses will help.  Otherwise if the cataract is too cloudy, then contact lenses may not make the vision any better.
