You really: should consult with your surgeon. I would consider wearing an elastic anklet that goes over the foot to help control the swelling of the foot. Also, important to ice and elevate at the end of the day.

THis would depend: if the bones were displaced or the fracture was intraarticular or at the joint. A surgical shoe and wrapping of the digit to limit motion and offer some compression's a good idea.

R.I.C.E.: ( r ) est: if the pain is continual, rest is an important way to prevent further injury. ( i )ce: for a 20-minute cycle apply a towel- wrapped ice pack to the sprain (20 minute on and 20 minutes off). ( c )ompression: to help restrict the swelling wrap an elastic bandage tightly around the injury. ( e )levation: elevate the ankle to even with your heart. This aids fluid away from the injury.

Depends: It depends on how severe the break is. If the toe is very crooked it may need to be reset. Otherwise just immobilize it and it should heal fine. If the break goes into a joint it will create an arthritic issue for you.

Buddy tape, then....: Buddy tape the toe to the adjacent toe and see your doctor.   You might need an xray and/or a consult to the podiatrist or ortho. 
Try to keep in still and protected from harms way.   A majority of the time, that's all that is needed.
