A few days: I guess I would ask if you were on Xanax (alprazolam) while you were pregnant, since it is a class D drug and not recommended in pregnancy. It can be switched to other benzos such as Ativan or Serax (lorazepam and oxazepam).  It is a short-acting drug which does not accumulate in fat, so it it is gone within 72 hours.  You can also talk to your prescriber about Clonazepam as a substitute if it is needed.

Contraindicated: Xanax (alprazolam) like any other drug is excreted in the breast mik and will last in your blood stream for 2 days
in your baby it can cause drowsiness and apneas make sure your baby is checked and monitered! 
may be your physician can prescribe a safer drug

Is not safe: 0.5mg of Alprazolam or Xanax (alprazolam) is not too much. Thec risc of breast feeding it wiill depend if it is  a one time use or a chronic treatment?. There will be traces of it in the breast milk which the baby would ingest. Again if it's a one time it will be negligible, of no consequences but if you planning on chronic xanax (alprazolam) use, better stop breast feeding now. One year is a good run anyway.

Not good idea: While Xanax (alprazolam) does cross into breast milk, the keve l s can be very erratic and thus not a good plan for withdrawl. Otherwise, you are basically asking about keeping your newborn addicted to a controlled substance by passing him the med through your milk to "alleviate  withdrawl". You are not alleviating withdrawl, you are keeping them addicted. Don't do it. Do withdrawl supervised in hospital.

Not a good idea: Lots of medicine that you ingest get into breast milk. It might be wise to call the physician who prescribed them and have him/her advise you how to taper off these medication if he/she thinks it wise.

Xanax (alprazolam): Probably unsafe with breastfeeding, talking about just one dose, believe you don&#x27;t really need it badly, can look for an alternative, its maximum half life in the  body is ~20 hours, so it can stay for up to 2 days, better avoid it, take care
