How long after taking xanax (alprazolam) can you resume breastfeeding?

A few days: I guess I would ask if you were on Xanax (alprazolam) while you were pregnant, since it is a class D drug and not recommended in pregnancy. It can be switched to other benzos such as Ativan or Serax (lorazepam and oxazepam). It is a short-acting drug which does not accumulate in fat, so it it is gone within 72 hours. You can also talk to your prescriber about Clonazepam as a substitute if it is needed.

Half life: Xanax (alprazolam) has a very long half life I would wait a minimum of 3-4 days ( while expressing) to clear the med from your system before resuming breast feeding
