i have been having not stop indigestion and heart burn for 3days, it gets a better for a little while if i eat. chest and throat feel raw. not short of breath but feels hard to take in air sometimes. is this just gerd?  pepcid ac & tums not working

This could be GERD: but there are other more serious diagnoses possible including heart disease. You need to be evaluated by a health care professional as soon as possible since this has been going on for three days!

Yes: This is far outside of the normal dosing range and is not recommended or studied at these doses.  I would advise you to see your md to hone in further on the source of your severe heartburn.

Reduces acid: Heart burn is caused by stomach acid burning the cells in the esophagus. Tums and Alka seltzer contian bicarbonate, (sodium bicarbonate) a base which chemically neutralizes the acid, reducing the burning sensation.

i was wondering my boy friends is taking both low dose aspirin and warfarin is it okay for him to use tums if he has heart burn?

: Blood thinners, anti-coagulants are not a do it yourself issue. Your bf needs to consult the doctor who is prescribing warfarin.

Chest pain: There are many causes of chest pain, without more information about your situation we can't advise you more than go see your doctor.  If your problem is related to acid reflux we often use over the counter ranitidine or Prilosec to help.

Heartburn: Usually tums, (calcium carbonate) mylanta, or maalox are generally recommended as safe.  Ask your ob/gyn what they suggest and then they will monitor you to ensure your are health and the baby is too.

Heartburn: Over the counter medications such as Tums, Rolaids and Maalox are good for the occasional relief of heartburn. Zantac, Prilosec, Prevacid, Nexium, (esomeprazole) Omeprazole, Lansoprazole are more effective for daily use to prevent recurrent heartburn.

No connection: The bottom line is that there are no actual studies linking TUMS or calcium consumption to placental calcifications. Many midwifes, Bradley instructors, etc will say that TUMS causes them, but on the other side, most OB Dr's say they don't. If you are still concerned, and want to avoid TUMS, try taking a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar diluted into an 8oz glass of water

Stop all. Start over: One meal a day is unhealthy. Your metabolic rate slows. You get fat. Long-term use of Prilosec stops proper digestion and is not approved. And can cause diarrhea! Imodium (loperamide) binds you up. Stop all self therapy and give yourself a break...
