Yes, but............: You will most likely gain weight.  Nonetheless, you should not be on a diet, but a lifestyle! I have been a low carb diet since 1994. I have lost 40 lbs, have normal blood pressure, and the best lipid profile in my life.  During holidays, i  gain some weight, but I am human. I tighten up after.. So maybe I am "off" 20 days a year. I do gain weight, but strict adherence afterwords! weight loss!

Probably not: Many articles list weight gain as a possible side effect of black cohosh. I tried to find how common this is & found one study showing 12% of women taking it reported weight gain. However. Absolutely, but...: They work very well for people with mesomorphic, android, (methyltestosterone) or "apple, " body types. These people have relatively high waists and carry weight on the torso.  These people are much more prone to cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease issues.  I believe all apples with these issues should be on this diet.  But for "pears, " or people with gynecoid builds, little weight lossoccurs!

Exam first.: Before going hog wild into the Atkin's diet program, you might want to have your physician evaluate your health status first. Don't set yourself for failure before you even start. The Atkin's is not that east to sustain and you should know the limitations and precautions of decreasing carbs.

meat and veggies: Eat only meat or fish or cheese or eggs or poultry and low starch veggies, drink only water.  In other words avoid all carbs, carbs will only briefly raise your sugar levels, then Insulin levels and then your sugar will drop again. The fats in the meat or fish or cheese or eggs or poultry will act like a "log on your metabolic fire" to keep your blood sugar stable for hours, without raising insuli.

Very! But...........: If you are an "apple" build, with torso weight and high waisted-very good. If low waisted, with more weight on arms and legs-not as good. Low calorie/low fat may be better in that case.  But apples have cholesterol and BP issues and the is no scientific question that low carb trumps low fat in this case!
