No: And you should not be self medicating. Do you realize that the antibiotics will not "cure" your problem? A tooth abscess requires specific dental care and cannot be treated just will pills. Please call a dentist for an appointment before the abscess spreads to other parts of your body and you need hospitalization.

Minimizes spread but: Amoxicillin may or may not work. Don't self prescribe medications. See a dentist for treatment! the most important thing to know is that taking any antibiotic, even if it works, does not cure the problem. It only controls it somewhat and minimizes the chance of the infection spreading. The cause of the problem needs to be eliminated.

Depends: Depends on the size of the swelling. If it is of an appreciable size, you may need to have an incision & drainage commonly known as an i & d. Regardless, once the swelling is of a manageable size, you need to have either a root canal treatment, or an extraction if the tooth is not savable. See your dentist or endodontist soon.

Call dentist: You should take benedryl  and this will help, the hives clear up quickly. The time will depend on how serious your allergic reaction is.  Call the dentist that is treating your tooth and let them know what happened.  It is still important to treat your infection.

Tooth Abcess: An abscess is an infection usually of bacterial origin.  The source of the infection needs to be identified and treated.  Removal of the source, possibly the tooth, may be necessary to eliminate the infection.  If the source of the infection is inside the tooth a root canal may resolve the infection also.

If microorganisms: Susceptible to Amoxicillin therapy, then a few days usually.  However, if the infection, which is usually a mixed infection (aerobes, anaerobes, gram +, gram -, etc.) has some resistant organisms or organisms which do not typically respond to amoxicillin, then perhaps a different antibiotic is indicated or adding an additional one.  Consult the prescriber of the amox.

Are : Are you being treated by a dentist or are you self medicating? The infection may never resolve without treatment, so it's tough to say how long you will be swollen for.

Antibiotics alone will not solve the problem in your gums and face. If your tooth is full of food and bacteria, the toxins embedded in there are leaching out the end of the tooth... That is why you have the infection.

Your tooth will either need extraction or root canal therapy, both of which need to be performed by a dentist. Make an appointment to be seen before your situation becomes worse.

Swelling: Swelling should be a little less every day.  If you are concerned return to your treating Dentist or Oral Surgeon for reevaluation.  Also talk to your Dentist about tooth replacement.
