Melatonin . . .: this is perfectly fine for you to try at night. Your real question pertains to potential drug interactions. Drug interactions are both studied and recorded for prescription medications. This knowledge is very important to us as physicians, when we are writing multiple prescriptions. However, there is significantly less data available on how one OTC medication/supplement might interact with another

can minoxidil topical for hairloss cause palpitations? can i use 5-htp, valerian and melatonin along with it?(interactions?)

Surprisingly, maybe: The dose used on the scalp is at least the same milligram number as the usual oral dose. while it generally doesn't get it, with irritated or scratched scalp I wouldn't rule it out. AND if it gets in, the blood pressure will drop and this can cause palpitations.. 5ht, and valerian interact through seratonin but aren't likely to give much serotonin syndrome.

i have bph at 77. twice have to go to void at night it hard to go back to sleep after. can anyone comment is the usage of 5-htp will negatively effect prostate or psa? usage of melatonin is not helping! thanks?

: Melatonin 8 to 10 mg at Sunset (+ ) or (-) 15 minutes usually help with restful night sleep. Melatonin at bedtime does not do much as it is a hormone that works with one's natural melatonin production, by augmentation, at sunset.  Avoiding drinking fluids late at night before sleep helps. Causes of BPH and high PSA  are a little much to discuss here and should be discussed with the Urologist.

if i normally use a supplement to sleep at night and im just starting 150mg wellbutrin xl am i able to still use my sleep supplement? it has 200mg of l-theanine, 30 grams of 5-htp and 3mg of melatonin. i am also using a ppi once daily. dexilant 60mg?

: It is never good to mix meds for many reasons . To avoid any problems take them separately. You can still take it- tho I do not recommend any supplements. Also always ask a prescriber how to take the prescribed meds and what other ones you take- including supplements

Below: 15 mg is not a toxic dose.
But I would suggest discussing you sleeping problems with your DR to try to find another solution.

Safe: See no real problem at this point, and really will not profoundly affect brain chemistry, but if you have a sleep disorder, best to uncover cause, as more specific approaches could be necessary.

Melatonin: Melatonin is not known to be harmful.  The dose you use is considered safe.  However, if there is some reason that you are not sleeping that is important, such as sleep apnea, or poor sleep conditions, melatonin may not be the best solution.

Melatonin: Typically 30-90 minutes before bedtime is enough. You may have to adjust the timing based on your body's response (e.g., if you get sleepy earlier than desired, you will have to delay taking the medication the next night). Also, when you take it, you will need to keep the lights dim for it to take stronger effect. Keep in mind sometimes lower doses are more effective than higher doses (e.g., 1 mg).

Melatonin: It makes no sense to take both together. One or the other should do fine.

Safe combination: It is safe to take lexapro (escitalopram) and melatonin at the same time although I would advise only 5mg of melatonin.
