Melatonin: Typically 30-90 minutes before bedtime is enough. You may have to adjust the timing based on your body's response (e.g., if you get sleepy earlier than desired, you will have to delay taking the medication the next night). Also, when you take it, you will need to keep the lights dim for it to take stronger effect. Keep in mind sometimes lower doses are more effective than higher doses (e.g., 1 mg).
