If the lesions are : Only on the eye lids - i would be doubtful that they were bedbugs. Bites are usually in areas that are exposed while sleeping-arms, shoulders, neck & legs.  I can only describe bed bug bites in general (not specific to eye area). Bed bug bites may cause no sx's/signs in some except for 2 small points where skin was punctured by bedbug. When there's a reaction, it may show from an hour to several &gt;.

A telltale  sign is linear track of lesions from sequential feedings – but that doesn't always occur. &gt;.

Hives?: You could be breaking out in hives from food, or by coming into contact with a foreign substance.

Cortisone cream: I would advise using a topical cortisone cream and keeping the scalp clean with a gentle shampoo. watch for signs of infection. Please follow up with your physician.

Plausible not likely: No recorded cases that i know of. Not for bed bugs or kissing bugs. Mosquitoes can transfer malaria from one human to another but i know of no cases of hiv/aids transmitted by this vector. That should be reassuring because both malaria & HIV are endemic to the same areas of tropical africa. Anyone else have information on this terrorfying scenario?

Id: Bedbug bites don't always appear immediately after the bite and are often very itchy so may experience a burning sensation several days after bitten. You won't feel the bugs because they excrete a tiny amount of anesthesia into your body before the bite.In general, the sites of bedbug bites usually are:

Red, often with a darker red spot in the middle
Itchy
Arranged in a rough line or in a cluster

over the past two weeks my partner and i are covered in hives. we have checked for bed bugs and see no sign. however have spotted ants is it related?

Look for: Suggest you change the detergent you use for washing your bed items sheets etc etc..
Any recent insect extermination ( the sprays are sometimes allergens)???
Finally have you both been exposed to outside allergens (eg Poison ivy, oak or the SMOKE from buring such weeds)

Bed bugs:  Blood loss in this quantity won't have an impact. Although there is no evidence that Bed bugs (Cimex lectularius) act as a vector for transmitting infectious diseases to humand, there are studies that suggest it might transmit Trypanosoma cruzi (Chaga Disease). Hard to say!: Your best bet for finding out the culprits is to call an exterminator.  Those folks can not  only tell you what might be going on, but also fix it.  We don't have enough info to tell you what bug.  In the meantime, avoid fragrances  and harsh soaps, as these may irritate skin and add to itching.  So use unscented everything for sensitive skin. No fabric softeners at all.  No aerosols.
