Depends: The rotator cuff is made up of 4 shoulder muscles and there tendons. Partial tears can result in pain, mild loss of motion and  some weakness. Complete tears, especially if 2 or more muscles are involved, can cause significant pain, weakness and limited motion. Typically unable to lift arm beyond the horizontal.

Yes: Certain portions of the shoulder motion come from different muscles not included in the rotator cuff.  All of the rotator cuff muscles may not be torn either and therefore you can still get motion and strength from them.

Hard to say: Recovery from a compressive neuropathy can take several months to a year to completely recover depending how much damage to the nerve was caused and the recovery my be incomplete in some cases. You could potentially have a rotator cuff tear also, you might need an MRI or ultrasound. Surgery to decompress a nerve should have some immediate relief, but certainly not complete relief.

No: Symptoms of a torn rotator cuff include pain, weakness, and loss of motion in the shoulder.  The pain may be on the side of the shoulder and radiate to the elbow.  A sleepy hand and arm would usually indicate compression of a nerve.

Not likely: A torn rotator cuff can definitely cause pain in the shoulder and arm, but the vast majority of the time the pain will be worse with motions like lifting your head over your arm or reaching behind your back.  If you have absolutely no increased pain when you move your arm, it does bring the diagnosis into question.  A pinched nerve in the neck can cause shoulder that is not worse with motion.

Depends: Surgical recovery can take 3 to 12 months for full recovery depending on the tear size and extent of surgery. This should not cause disability once it is healed

Cuff tear: Depends on your age and activity level.  For high grade partial tears, most active individuals will do better with surgical repair.  This can be done miminally invasive through arthroscopy.  Other options would include rest, physical therapy, and injections.

Yes: You are describing some of the symptoms of rotator cuff tear. It will be easier to repair if it is only partial. The rehab afterwards is very important to restoring function so listen to the instructions and follow them as long as you are told to for best results.

Tendonitis: 30&#x27;s female w. anterior shoulder pain at abduction, absent mechanical injury, likely has tendonitis of biceps tendon. Heat, rest &amp; topical Cannabis salve + heating pad might help. If problem persists over next 10 days, visit an Osteopath or Physiatrist for evaluation &amp; possible cortisone injection, which will likely resolve symptoms forever or at least several months. Consider repetitive stress.
